History

Steeped in tradition with a rich history in Concord, NH- Presidential Oaks’ history dates back to the late 1800’s, where the land was once chosen by President Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United States as a possible home when he returned to Concord, NH from his Presidency in Washington, DC. Unfortunately, the home was never built on this large hill overlooking the city of Concord. Eventually the land ended up being purchased by the New Hampshire Odd Fellows Fraternity.

  • The NH Odd Fellows Home opened in 1882 to care for indigent men, women and orphans before evolving into a retirement home for fraternity members in 1932.
  • The now existing main building on Pleasant Street opened for fraternity members and this building continues to remain licensed for supportive retirement living residents.

In 1965, the home opened its doors to the public with oversight of the community remaining with the NH Odd Fellows Board of Trustees. In 1992, the Odd-Fellows built a Nursing Facility and attached the nursing facility to the original main building, which then completed a strategic plan to offer retirement living, assisted living, nursing home and rehabilitation care- all under one living space, with in a 12-acre community, only 2 miles from downtown Concord, NH.

The community was then re-named – Presidential Oaks and has always provided quality care and services with a tremendous value. The community is close to shopping, theaters and restaurants in downtown Concord, and minutes away from the Concord Hospital main campus and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Offices.
